Molds on household items: Cleanup or Throw it away

Molds grow and survive in the presence of excessive moisture in the climate. Many a times, we see molds growing on several household items like furniture, carpets, dry walls, etc. These items need instant attention to avoid damage that these harmful fungi could cause. Some molds that exist in our house are not much harmful and they could be cleaned using regular cleaning items like Lysol, bleach, etc. However, some of the fungi are very dangerous and injurious to health.
If you are witnessing a mold growth in your house, you need to get in touch with a professional Mold Remediation Company that will conduct a mold testing service in your premise to get a clearer picture. The mold testing result will state the exact level of infection in your house, type of mold that exists and time frame required for the mold removal services. Once all these points are clear, you need to check what all items have been attacked by the fungi. Then, you will have to decide what all items should be cleaned and kept for further use and what all items should be discarded to heavy mold attack that cannot be cleaned completely.

Cleanup or Throw Away

When molds have attacked a hard non-porous surface of a material like ceramic tile, it becomes easy to clean them up from there, using household as well as professional methods. However, when the mold growth occurs on items like carpet, cloths, ceiling tiles, etc. it becomes almost impossible to clean them from those surfaces completely. In such a scenario, discarding the items in question is the best option to avoid the molds from growing further.

Items like wood can survive the mold attack and could be cleaned if the fungi growth is detected early and mold cleanup process is conducted. Otherwise, the molds will damage the woods and later on, it will be of no use to get it cleaned as the item would be completely destroyed due to the prolonged mold exposure. However, if any particular piece of an item is affected, then that piece should be discarded and rest of the item should be thoroughly checked to confirm if any infection is still left.

How to discard moldy items?

The items that you have decided to discard should be packed carefully so that the molds on the surface of the item do not get exposed to outside environment. The exposure should be avoided to check it from releasing the mold spores that can infect the outside environment. The item should be completely packed and discard at a place from where it has no any way of infecting any house or work premise. It should not be discarded or thrown in nearby areas.
